Our Primary Goals:
VT Emulation was founded on three primary principals;
providing quality content and coverage, promoting legitimate
emulation to its fullest, and developing a community
that all would be welcome in. Providing quality content
is our foremost concern, we are here to provide as much
quality coverage for as many emulators as we can and
we refuse to provide needless “filler” content.
Promoting legitimate emulation is our second goal, we
are here to help the authors that help so many other
people preserve the games they love in a format that
will not age with time, we are not here to help those
who were only interested in emulation when they learned
they could “get free games on their PCs.” Finally,
we aim to build a community where everyone is welcome
and where anyone may voice their thoughts, ideas and
opinions; without community, the emulation scene as we
know it would not exist.
Our History:
VT Emulation officially came into existence on May
18, 2001. VT Emulation got off to a slow start and hit
many bumps in the road. Despite the obstacles we continued
to develop VT Emulation. Eventually VT Emulation’s
first incarnation, know known as VT Emulation 1.0, was
beginning to show its age pre-maturely and was retired
in favor of a second site, VT Emulation 2.0. VT Emulation
continued on as it had in the past. Due to complications
on several ends (finances, our web host, and other elements)
VT Emulation was forced to shut down for almost 8 months.
During that time I spent my time developing a new foundation
to build a new VT Emulation upon, one that would ensure
that none of the problems which plagued it in the past
would ever come up again. All of the work paid off in
the form of the site you see before you, VT Emulation
Network 3.0. With a new set of goals in sight and a new
foundation to stabilize VT Emulation we are back in operation
and this time we are here to stay.
Our Views on Uses of Emulation:
Unfortunately due to a large group of individuals the
word “Emulation” has become synonymous with “Piracy.” We
do not support or endorse piracy in any way, shape or
form. What short term pleasure those who use emulation
for piracy get is the very act erodes away from the emulation
community that we know so well and love. It is acts such
as that which threaten the future of emulation. Using
emulation for piracy is in essence destroying the very
works and their creators that we are here to preserve.
If such acts eventually become the “norm,” both
game developers and emulator developers will no longer
put their hearts into their works, those who respect
their works will simply cease development and be replaced
by a breed of sub-standard developers who are out to
produce nothing but a quick dollar.
With that aside, what we feel is the primary use for
emulation is to preserve the games that we are so fond
of and the memories that go with them. Emulation offers
those a chance to save their collection indefinitely
instead of just sitting back and watching it diminish
over time due to failing cartridges and consoles. Emulation
places these games in a truly timeless format, one that
can be enjoyed for years to come.
Our Future:
I believe that VT Emulation Network has a very bright
future and I intend to follow the path wherever it leads.
I plan to extend our coverage as much as possible over
the years and continue the evolution of VT Emulation
Network as a whole.
Many of you may be wondering what VT Emulation will
do in the future for revenue once traffic grows since
we obviously aren’t ad supported. Will we be forced
into placing a few ad banners on the site? Well, I’m
not Miss Cleo and I can’t guarantee that VT Emulation
Network will always remain ad-free but what I can guarantee
is that I will always maintain the integrity of VT Emulation
Network as I have in the past. It’s possible at
some time VT Emulation may be forced into being ad-supported,
but if it should ever come to that I can guarantee that
it would be a very well regulated system and I would
sooner fund VT Emulation Network out of my own pocket
than resort to compromising its integrity.
With all of that in mind, Welcome to VT Emulation Network,
and if you have any questions, do not hesitate to email
me at vincent@vtemulation.net.
