Due
to how young GameCube emulation is, there are not currently
any emulators that are capable of fully running retail titles.
These emulators are only capable of running some demos and
a limited selection of screens from some retail titles at the
moment, and quite slowly at that. These emulators are only
provided for those who may find their debugging information
or other aspects useful.
The emulators below are considered works-in-progress. Due
to their development stage many of these emulators may exhibit
stability issues and may have little or no compatibility with
commercial titles. Also due to their development stage we
do not feel it's fair to rate these emulators as we do the
others, so all emulators in this category are un-rated.

v1.02
for Windows
1 / 8 / 2005
|
Dolphin is one of
the most advanced GameCube emulators, showing screens
from a large selection of commercial title, with
even two titles playable at the moment. As with
all GameCube emulators, the hardware requirements
are steep. For a CPU, the author recommends “The
fastest you can find”, which would be a higher-end
Athlon 64 or hyper-threaded Pentium 4, a video
card equal or greater to a Radeon 9500 or GeForce
FX is recommended as well as 256MBs of RAM or better. |

Dolwin is the first
true GameCube emulator to appear. At the moment,
Dolwin plays many homebrew demos and is beginning
to show openings to some commercial titles. So
far, no commercial titles are fully playable. Dolwin
is available for Windows and also includes a source
code package for developers. |

WhineCube is a promising
new emulator for Windows capable of playing many
homebrew games and applications. At the moment,
WhineCube cannot play any commercial titles fully.
The WhineCube website contains more compatibility
information for both homebrew and commercial titles. |

v0.3 for Windows
12 / 5 / 2004 - Discontinued
v0.4 Source Code
1 / 12 / 2005 - Discontinued |
Gcube is a very
impressive GameCube emulator, available for Windows
as well as Mac and Linux. Unfortunately Gcube does
not have a graphical interface, and as such, is
command-line driven, so reading the documentation
would be advisable. Gcube is able to play into
many commercial titles, but was unfortunately discontinued.
However, Monk has released the source code to the
emulator so any other developer is free to pick
up the project and continue development. |
