All of the emulators in this section use the PSEmu Pro plugin
system, and as such may require various plugins. To get these
plugins, please visit the PSX
Plugins page in the Utilities Section.

To date, ePSXe is the best PSX emulator available,
and unlike many others of the past, it’s also
free of charge. For the best compatibility, ePSXe
takes the crown, hands down. For more information
on this great emulator, please see the Editor’s
Choice Review.

AdriPSX is a very
reliable and compatible PSX emulator developed by
Roor Makurosu and Juan Fazzini. AdriPSX has full
PSEmu Pro plugin support as well as a simplified
GUI for ease-of-use. AdriPSX also includes a decent
set of default plugins, with the exception of a
few quarks in the Gamepad plugin. Definitely worth
a look to any PSX gamer.

v1.5 Source

PCSX is a fairly
advanced and compatible open-source PSX emulator
written by Linuxappz. PCSX features an internal
HLE BIOS which means it will be able to run most
supported titles “out of the box” without
the need for a real PSX BIOS ROM. A drawback to
PCSX is a slightly unintuitive interface and the
fact that no default plugins are included. As a
result, to use PCSX, you will need to download Graphics,
Audio, CDROM, Gamepad and Netplay (if you choose
to use Netplay) plugins. As a side-note, PCSX also
has the option to change the default language to
Italian.

v0.18
for Windows
7 / 9 / 2004 |
PSXeven is a
Playstation emulator by Xeven with great compatibility
and fairly good speed. PSXeven features a very nice
GUI and the usual PSEmu Pro plugin system. The default
set of plugins could best be described as the “failsafe”
configuration, seeing as just about anything will
run using them. The only plugins you may want to
replace are the GPU and input plugins. Plugins and
GUI aside, this emulator has excellent compatibility
and is quite stable. The only downside to PSXeven
is that at times, it’s slightly more demanding
than some of the other emulators in terms of system
requirements. To use PSXeven, you’ll also
need a PSX BIOS ROM.
Also available is a work-in-progress build. This
build is akin to a beta, and as such may exhibit
instability and may contain incomplete features.
Most users should download the current v0.18 build.

The
emulators below are considered works-in-progress. Due to their
development stage many of these emulators may exhibit stability
issues and may have little or no compatibility with commercial
titles. Also due to their development stage we do not feel
it's fair to rate these emulators as we do the others, so all
emulators in this category are un-rated.

Revision
5 for Windows

PSinex was written
by Psychojak in C. Like many others, PSinex has
full support for PSEmu Pro compatible plugins. Compatibility
is somewhat limited compared to other available
emulators, and stability leaves a lot to be desired.
To use PSinex, you’ll need a full set of plugins
and a BIOS ROM seeing as no default plugins are
provided and BIOS emulation is not available. |
