Ya, I've got a cd-i and lots of games and stuff but.....

I've had the cd-i since it was brand new (it only cost like 350 at media play, not 700 like people have said), but anyway I've still got alot of the games for it but I'm trying to get this one I downloaded burnt so I can play it on the system. It's a .cdi file and I've been trying to use the methods i've found online for making copies of the actual disks, but so far it's not working for my download, even though all of the same steps do what they're supposed to. I actually cracked the system along time ago, and was able to copy "dvd"s using the cd-ice program long before dvd burners were even in the works, but it's been such a long time I don't remember how to do all that. I've got isobuster, cdrwin, clonecd, and nero burning rom, and discjuggler, and I've tried everything I can think of so if any one can tell me what I'm doing wrong I'de appreciate it. Or if anyone wants to make an offer on the rare cd-i versions of mario, or the cdi zeldas and link games (yeah they're cheesy and only take like an hour to beat, but you can't claim you've beet them all if you havn't played these). lol. But I would just appreciate some help.

WTB: Quality PS2-to-PC gamepad converter

I used to buy gamepad converters from Radio Shack. They were close and easy to do returns with. They stopped carrying them a few years back. Now my gamepad converter died and I need a new one. I read nothing but mixed reviews online. Joy Box branded products seem the most common, but again, a lot of people seem to report problems with them.

Does anyone have any recommendations for gamepad converters? I'm missing my emulators, PC ports, and pseudo-retro pc games.

Star Trek Online Beta Impressions

I managed to get into the closed beta for Star Trek Online around January 10. I went in cautiously optimistic, knowing that most movie/tv tie-ins don't usually go well. Star Trek games, less so.

The game opens on a borg attack. They get you used to the controls by moving around, using basic items, etc. After healing a few people, you move on to ground-based combat. It moves to some degree as you'd expect of an MMO, but with a lot of ranged combat. You are usually using various manner of phasers. As you move through the corridors the game teaches you about how positional damage is important (i.e. a shot to the back hurts a lot more) and aim mode (hit c, and lose some mobility in favor of stronger attacks). Most of your special abilities on the ground come from your gear, rather than your character.

After you clear out some borg and get to where you are doing, you get a ship, and are thrown into some space combat. This is where those who played Star Fleet Command back in the day. Though not as complicated, space combat functions on a very similar weapon arc, and shield system. You have front, back, left, and right shields and as they get drained you either have to reroute power or turn your ship. Weapons have a specific degree arc they can fire in so you usually have to have your enemy within a specific range of your ship's front to fire your main weapons. Ships usually have some back weapons too, but you'll have to choose a shield draining weapon or a damage dealing weapon for your back weapon.

I particularly like that STO both keeps and tosses a lot of traditional MMORPG staples. Missions or "Episodes" play out like a quest. You get told to go somewhere and do something. Sometimes it's fight off some Orions, or investigate a planet. Other times it's scan an area for abnormalities. It's all very structured. You always have an idea of what to do and where to do it. Some missions are space ship missions, others are ground, and some mix both. I particularly enjoy those as they often times involve some exploring and poking around to see what is going on before the action starts. It really does feel a lot like a Star Trek episode.

On the other end of the spectrum you don't necessarily have the same party requirements more traditional games like World of Warcraft force on you (i.e. Healer, Tank, CC, DPS, DPS). The party system is a bit more open ended. Those types of ships all exist, but strategy and numbers seem to tend to win the day more often than adhering to a rigid party structure. This is fun, because you can pretty much play how you want. I'm sure closer to endgame, it'll be more helpful to have those roles all met, but for what I played it made little difference.

Another cool aspect of STO is the bridge crew. You have a ship full of people. They effect how fast repairs are made to your ship. Your bridge crew though are named officers you can choose and customize. You get four plus your character. They serve two purposes. First, they are your away crew when you beam down to a planet. This means even when you play alone, you have 5 characters to work with on ground missions. Each crew member gets ground and space abilities. In space, some of your more specialized tricks comes from your bridge crew. For example, "Emergency Power to Shields" refills your shields in battle after they have been run down. "High Yield Torpedo" is a buff on your next torpedo attack. It's a lot of fun customizing your crew as well. It's like you get to have 5 characters. You can change names, physical aspects, uniform, etc. You even get to add a little back story for each of your characters.

I am quite happy with how STO came out. If I were less cheap, I could easily see paying for it. I'm not too big on the whole $15 a month thing, but I can say STO is worth the money. It's riotous good fun, and one of the only GOOD Star Trek games ever made!

Sega Genesis Collection for the PSP

I recently picked up the Sega Genesis Collection for the PSP and I have to admit they built an impressive emulator. It supports all of the common features such as various screen scaling options, a form of save-states and even a form of local ad-hoc netplay. It's great to have a few of the classics on my PSP, it's just unfortunate there weren't more quality titles in the compilation. Personally, I'd like to see them reuse this emulator for future compilations on the system.

Having SSF 0.11 alpha R2 problems...please help

Ok, I've got everything up to the game running on SSF 0.11r2, and the BIOS, Saturn 1.01a(UE) is working fine. I can go into the system bios screen and all, but when I tried mounting Legend of Oasis.bin into my magicISO drive it read "Disc is unsuitable for this system." Here is where I downloaded it in case someone else wanted to try it to see if it works on their emulator: Removed
I don't have any other games ready to run yet, but I am currently downloading sonic jam to see if it is in fact a compatibility issue.

Assuming it isn't, could someone help me to figure out what I'm doing wrong?

Picture attached is what I'm running them on, and shows the Bios I'm using and the .bin file I'm using, which is downloaded and extracted(you have to extract the .bin/.cue file from the downloaded file).

Thanks in advance for all the help!

Resident Evil 5

Just got this game and have been playing it. It's not too bad, but Capcom seems to have abandoned the original RE look, feel, and experience altogether with this iteration in the series.

I can't find the gory deaths that the characters encountered in previous games. When your health drains you are in a "dying" state, your partner can revive you if she gets to you in time. Instead of the gory death scenes, you instead just fall down and bleed. No decapitations even when getting killed by the Chainsaw Majini, at least Resident Evil 4 had gory death scenes.

It just doesn't feel like Resident Evil, I'm just playing it for the game it is now.

Capcom had the correct formula in Resident Evil 4, a change that was considered nice, welcome, and positively critiqued over the formula of older Resident Evil games.

Resident Evil 4 still kept some of the feel and gory death scenes from the former Resident Evil games, but no more in Resident Evil 5.

Any good Phillips CD-i emulator?

Well, I've been watching videos where people make fun of those CD-i games and I thought: is there any emulator for it? I did some Google search and found this: http://www.cdiemu.org/

I've tried it, but it's shareware and free-to-try version only emulates for 3 minutes. It also has some graphical and core glitches, doesn't emulate other controllers cd-i has (only wireless) and it seems to be very outdated. So is there any other emulator you know?
